Research Collaboration Between Dr. Jay Kumar and Student Lands on the Global TEDx Talk Stage

Chapman University’s Director of Wellbeing Dr. Jay Kumar recently took the TEDx stage to deliver a fresh and practical perspective on how to heal America’s psyche and restore American democracy. The Aug. 25 TEDxWrigleyville talk, “How to Heal America’s Traumatized Brain,” has officially dropped on the TEDx Global Platform, an impressive feat for Chapman’s own “Happiness Professor,” and the student who helped write the script.

“While I am always honored to represent Chapman in any capacity, personally, it is all the more meaningful having the opportunity on the worldwide TEDx platform,” said Kumar. “I hope this inspiring talk further promotes the academic innovation and collaboration here at Chapman and at Wilkinson College through novel media outlets that reach a global audience.”

The inspiration behind Kumar’s TEDx talk arose from a unique research collaboration between him and communications major Catherine Mysliwiec ’22, who played a key role in helping write the TEDx script.

Mysliwiec says her collaboration with Kumar has been a defining moment in her Chapman experience: “Working with Dr. Kumar on this TEDx talk has been an incredible experience for me,” she said. “It gave me the opportunity to further develop and integrate my own ideas with Dr. Kumar’s research to craft a compelling TEDx talk on a topic which is much-needed in our current moment.”
