Congratulations to this Week’s Service Plan of Recognition Recipients

We are proud to name this week’s Service Plan of Recognition awardees for their extraordinary work as Chapman responds to COVID-19. Each staff and administrator selected embodies the dedication and integrity that continues to drive and strengthen Chapman University.

This week’s recipients are: 

Michael Appell, academic program specialist, Registrar’s Office

Michael has also been a tremendous support for his team and frequently offers to help others. He’s been working with Blas to assist in the enrollment certifications for the students receiving VA benefits to ensure they are completed timely. –Jan McCuen

Maggie Sandoval, academic records coordinator, Registrar’s Office

Maggie joined the Registrar’s Office a week prior to classes moving to online learning. Despite the challenges of this, she has taken to the position quickly and has become essential to the team. Her on-boarding has been terrific. –Jennifer Ahern

Michelle Garcia, parking enforcement officer, Public Safety

On May 5, 2020, Michelle appropriately followed-up on second-hand information and coordinated the removal of two unauthorized trespassers from university property, preventing additional crimes and keeping the current resident community safe. – Randy Burba

Patricia Michelsen, assistant registrar, Academic Programs & Articulation, Registrar’s Office

Leading the APS team, continuing her work with the GE Committee and navigating the increased workload is a balancing act that Patty is handling admirably. She and her team process hundreds of emails weekly and prepare to award degrees. –Jennifer Ahern

Pedro Castaneda, catering supervisor, Sodexo

Federico Gonzales, catering supervisor, Sodexo

Pedro and Federico have worked to help our delivery program to the students at The K Residence Hall and at Chapman Grand. They have been a very big part of the catering operation during this difficult time. –Eric Cameron

Joseph Kim, talent management coordinator, Office of Human Resources

Joseph has been very responsive to student employment needs, and his outreach efforts recently have supported our goal to reshape summertime employment needs, thereby saving the campus significant monies at a critical time. –Brian Powell

Patrick Rausch, technology buyer, Purchasing

Patrick has been incredibly responsive as we have needed emergency technology purchases during the pandemic.  He makes the process quick, easy, and painless and is a great collaborator. –Helen Norris

Julie Johnson, instructional analyst, IS&T

Julie has delivered fantastic support and service during the crisis.  To quote an email received from a faculty member: “How does Julie do it, keep everything in mind and so calmly respond to so many questions?  She is terrific!” –Helen Norris

Kevin Bedwell, client/media service technician, IS&T

Kevin is recognized as a customer service leader.  He is always willing to take on new tasks and challenges. His positive attitude, patience and care for the staff, faculty and students lend themselves well to his customer service excellence. –Helen Norris

Tim Collins, editor/videographer, Strategic Marketing and Communications

Tim worked closely with Dodge College to create videos for their virtual celebration, both for grad and undergrad events. He worked tirelessly through many long nights in order to provide them with high-end, quality videos in record time. –Jamie Ceman

Traci Pennington, SMC project manager, Strategic Marketing and Communications

Having only recently started at Chapman, Traci has demonstrated her ability to effectively manage large projects and campaigns, most of which had to be re-planned due to COVID-19; most recently with Giving Day, which we saw profound success. –Jamie Ceman

Ramona Alonalon, operations administrator, Career and Professional Development

Ramona joined CPD one week before we transitioned to remote work. With only a few days of working in the office, she immediately stepped up, took the initiative on critical projects, and established herself as an integral part of our team. –Jo Bandy

Brittany Pacheco, associate director, Academic Events, Special Events

Brittany’s extraordinary efforts with Friday night’s Virtual Celebration and Presidential Toast proved to be a huge hit with all of our graduates and parents and she should be commended for her contributions. –Sheryl Bourgeois
