Professor Vernon Smith delivers a keynote talk at the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez in Chile. The university named Smith an Honorary Fellow.


Professor Vernon Smith, 2002 Nobel laureate in economics, was named an Honorary Fellow at the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez, a private institution in Valparaiso, Chile. He shares this recognition with other renowned economists, including Ludwig Erhard, Friedrich Hayek and Milton Friedman.

At the Sept. 28 award ceremony Smith gave a lecture titled “Balance Sheet Crises: Causes, Consequences and Cure Scenarios.”  Smith will give a lecture at the university, “Balance Sheet Crises: Causes, Consequences and Cure Scenarios,” at a ceremony that will be attended by nearly 150 Chilean economists and more than 200 students. The lecture and ceremony will be Friday, Sept. 28.

Presenting Professor Smith with the award was Pedro Ibañez, chairman of the University Board, and its Rector, Andres Benìtez..
