Students rise to international challenge at Chapman

For the second year in a row, this spring Chapman University’s
Center for Global Education
teamed with the
World Affairs Council
of Orange County and hosted a College Bowl-style competition for area high school students called Academic World Quest 2010.

It’s a great way to foster international education and showcase Chapman, says James J. Coyle, Ph.D., director of Global Education at Chapman.

“We wanted to do it because it is the role of both Chapman and the World Affairs Council to bring international education to Orange County. And so it seems like a natural fit. It’s also a great opportunity for the best high school students in the area to see Chapman University.

Several teams of students studied international current events for three months to prep for the April 24 competition in Irvine Lecture Hall, which tested their knowledge of current events and global issues ranging from international migration trends to genocide. They really had to know their stuff. A wrong answer meant a lost point, so no advantage to guessing.
