The economic impact of federal stimulus programs created in response to the pandemic crisis will resonate for years, say Chapman University economists. So, they are adapting their upcoming Economic Forecast Update to include a forecast on inflation, interest rates, housing appreciation and the stock market through 2023.
Impact of Money Supply on the Economy
“The reason I am doing that is because the unprecedented increase in the money supply at annual rates above 25 percent has significant long-run implications,” said economist and Chapman President Emeritus Jim Doti, Ph.D., the lead presenter at the Forecast Update, set for Wednesday, June 16, at 3 p.m.

To serve business and community leaders facing important decisions during the pandemic recovery, the university is offering complimentary registration and admission to the virtual event, made possible through sponsorship support.
For decades, the forecasts presented by Chapman’s A. Gary Anderson Center for Economic Research in the Argyros School of Business and Economics, have been regarded as the most accurate forecasts in the nation. And in the face of the pandemic, that did not change. Chapman accurately predicted the V-shape recovery of 2020.
In addition to the discussion of the pandemic relief programs and their economic impact, the update presentation will include reports by additional Chapman experts addressing regional and state trends as well.
Additional Forecast Update presenters will include:
- Professor Raymond Sfeir, Ph.D., director of the Anderson Center. Sfeir has served as a research fellow in the Anderson Center since 1988, as director of the Orange County Purchasing Managers Survey since 1988, and as director of the California Purchasing Managers survey from 2002 to the present.
- Professor Fadel Lawandy, director of the Hoag Center for Real Estate and Finance in the Argyros School. Lawandy has more than 16 years of experience in the financial industry with extensive expertise in banking, credit management, commercial/residential real estate acquisition and financing, business lending, mergers and acquisitions, quantitative and qualitative analysis and research, and portfolio management. He retired as a guided portfolio manager from Morgan Stanley Smith Barney to join Hunter Wise Financial Group, LLC.
