Four years of live production experience at Chapman prepared Lisa Pressler ’26 to help visiting broadcast teams navigate match days during the FIFA World Cup at SoFi Stadium

On match days at SoFi Stadium, Lisa Pressler ’26 rarely stayed in one place for long.

She might begin in the Broadcast Information Office, helping visiting broadcasters find their positions and confirming they had the information they needed. Later, she could be on the field or high in the commentator area, answering questions and helping crews prepare to go on air.

“I was pretty much all over, wherever they needed help,” Pressler said.

Pressler served on the liaison team during the FIFA Host Broadcast (HB) Intern Programme, acting as a communication link between Host Broadcast Services and visiting broadcasters. The role required her to understand how a live production comes together—and what people working on different parts of it might need.

Four years with the student-run Chapman Sports Broadcast Network (CSBN) gave her that perspective.

Pressler joined CSBN during her first year at Chapman University and became interested in sports media while producing games with friends. She gained experience both on camera and behind the scenes, exploring work as a producer and sideline reporter.

Opportunities with CSBN and “Chapman News” also taught her to see a production from a broadcaster’s point of view. She credits CSBN faculty adviser David Goedhart with supporting her as she applied for the internship.

At SoFi Stadium, those experiences helped her recognize the rhythms of a much larger broadcast.

“We put on smaller broadcasts that are like this, and I’d already been introduced to that world,” Pressler said. “CSBN really prepared me for this.”

The internship also gave Pressler her first experience working at a major international sporting event. One moment stands out: watching the opening ceremony from the field as the noise of the crowd filled the stadium.

“It still feels like a dream to me,” she said.

Now a Chapman graduate, Pressler hopes to continue working in live sports production, either as a producer or on-camera talent. Her advice to students considering sports media is to begin before they feel completely comfortable.

“Put yourself out there,” Pressler said. “Even if you have no experience, it’s a great way to gain that experience.”
