Chapman University officially dedicated the Alexander E. Hayden School of Real Estate, honoring alumnus Alex Hayden ’95 and his pivotal role in bringing the school to life. The Dec. 11 ceremony celebrated his vision, leadership, and commitment to shaping the future of real estate education at Chapman.

Hayden’s $5 million gift established the school to elevate Chapman’s national and global real estate profile, attract top faculty, and provide students with unmatched programming, mentorship, and industry connections. Hayden is vice chairman at CBRE, the world’s largest commercial real estate services firm, where he has built a distinguished career advising major companies worldwide and leading a team of more than 50 professionals.
“Through Alex, we launched a successful master’s program, approved a new undergraduate major, and ultimately created a full School of Real Estate,” said Tom Turk, interim dean of Argyros College. “Naming a school is not just about generosity. It reflects an aspiration to embed the professional qualities that led to the honored individual’s success.”

Chapman President Matt Parlow described Hayden as a “force of nature,” whose entrepreneurial drive and strategic vision exemplify the qualities Chapman hopes to instill in its students.
“He sees the path to yes,” Parlow said. “He mentors, coaches and opens doors for students, and he does it with a commitment to his values and to those he works with. None of this would have happened without his wife, Lori, who has been by his side every step of the way.”

Hayden, speaking last, reflected on the relationships that guided his career and his deep connection to Chapman.
“To be taught, and then trusted—that’s everything,” he said. “It’s humbling to represent the university in real estate, and I’m grateful for everyone who has been part of this journey.”
He also paid tribute to his grandparents, who prioritized education for their grandchildren.
“That belief is why it’s so meaningful to have the Hayden name associated with Chapman,” Hayden said.

The Hayden School of Real Estate stands as a testament to what vision and perseverance can achieve, inspiring current and future Chapman students to reach new heights in real estate and beyond.
