Promoting Access to Thriving Careers in Food Science for Underrepresented Students.

Underrepresented students pursue graduate education at lower rates than students from traditionally represented groups. In addition, enrollment in post-secondary Food Science programs has drastically declined on a national scale, despite the plentiful job opportunities in the food industry. Thus, there is a need to recruit future food scientists, particularly from underrepresented groups to decrease the disparities in professional settings and to ensure the sustainability of the food industry. Our goal is to recruit six underrepresented students to pursue a M.S. degree in Food Science with a focus on first-generation and black students.
