Chapman University lecturer Hania Ahmar has received the 2023 Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
The award is given by the Ellis Island Honors Society to people who have “shown an outstanding commitment to serving our nation either professionally, culturally or civically”, according to the organization.
Ahmar’s fellow honorees include TV chef Rachael Ray, film director Robert Zemeckis, actor Liev Schreiber and U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer.
Ahmar, who teaches in Argyros School of Business and Economics, is vice president and co-founder of real estate development company Ahmar Investment Inc. She is involved with several nonprofits, including her own Ahmar Family Foundation.
