Over the summer, Chapman staff members stuffed 100 backpacks full of school supplies that were donated to the El Modena Family Resource Center in Orange (part of the Community Action Partnership of Orange County). They also assembled 80 hygiene kits for Friendly Center in the City of Orange.
The stuffing event was part of Chapman’s annual Staff Summit, a week-long summer program that celebrates the hundreds of administrative staff employed by the university.
“The theme of this year’s Staff Summit event was ‘Making an Impact,’ and what better way to demonstrate that than to give back to local nonprofits doing important work in our community,” said Alisa Driscoll, vice president of community relations. “Staff members also included handwritten notes of support and encouragement in each backpack and toiletry kit that we put together. It was a valuable way to spend a morning and a great way for Chapman employees to give back to families in Orange.”
The estimated in-kind value of the donation was $8,000.
