Chapman University Ranks in Top 10 of the Nation’s Best Undergraduate Health Sciences Programs

Chapman University was recognized as ranking in the top 10 on College Choice’s “Best Health Sciences Bachelor’s Degrees” list.

College Choice, a leading authority in college and university rankings and resources, placed Chapman at No. 9. The ranking is based on institutional reputation, graduation rates, selectivity and faculty resources. The data from their ranking comes from the National Center for Education Statistics’ Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, U.S. News & World Report, PayScale and individual college websites. Alongside the top 10 with Chapman are the University of Southern California, Boston University, Northeastern University, Ohio State University and Rutgers University. View the complete list here.

Housed in Chapman’s Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences, the B.S. in Health Sciences is designed to prepare students for graduate work leading to careers in healthcare fields. The program offers a combination of courses that equips students with a multidisciplinary understanding of health and healthcare in today’s society.

“I am extremely proud that our health sciences program is rated ninth,” said Janeen Hill, Ph.D., dean of Crean College. “The program’s faculty are committed to mentoring students; to working with students to achieve their goals; to providing students with a rigorous education so that they are prepared for the demands of graduate programs in medicine, physical therapy, physician assistant studies, dentistry and others.”

College Choice especially praised Chapman’s emphasis on prepping students for a variety of career paths.

“Chapman University sets you up for the future,” College Choice wrote in its description of Chapman. “This B.S. in Health Sciences emphasizes undergraduate research and fulfills all the prerequisites for medical school or graduate study in healthcare.”

College Choice also mentioned that Chapman’s B.S. in Health Sciences stands out for its Accelerated, Bridge and Linkage Programs, where students are provided with clear pathways from undergraduate studies to graduate health professional programs. This allows health sciences undergraduates to go directly from their bachelor’s degree to a graduate program, including:

  • M.S. in Food Science,
  • M.S. in Health and Strategic Communication,
  • MMS in Physician Assistant Studies,
  • Doctor of Physical Therapy,
  • M.S. in Athletic Training,
  • or a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine.

Dean Hill notes that other factors distinguish Chapman’s health sciences major, including being one of the few undergraduate programs with a virtual reality human anatomy lab, as well as the student opportunities it provides through excellent research, internships and hands-on experiences in hospitals, clinics, and private practice settings. Previously, the major was named one of the nation’s top programs on TheBestSchools.org’s “25 Best Bachelor’s in Health Sciences Degree Programs” list.

In addition to the B.S. in Health Sciences, Crean College offers two other undergraduate degree programs in psychology and applied human physiology, and five graduate programs in physical therapy, athletic training, marriage and family therapy, communication sciences and disorders and physician assistant studies. In the last three years, the college has added 20 new faculty members and supplied its laboratories with brand new, state-of-the-art technology. At the Rinker Health Science campus in Irvine, California, graduate students work with top-of-the-line tools for advanced interdisciplinary research, including a motion analysis lab, an anti-gravity treadmill and a 180-degree virtual reality lab.
