If you’ve enjoyed the books, travel stories and articles of Chapman University Presidential Fellow Pico Iyer, be sure to mark your calendar for Wednesday, April 13, when Iyer will be the featured author at the Orange County Register Book Club.
Iyer will discuss his newest book,
The Art of Stillness: Adventures in going Nowhere
, and other work, in a conversation led by
Coast Magazine
associate editor Samantha Dunn. In his new book Iyer investigates the lives of people who have made a life seeking stillness: from Matthieu Ricard, a Frenchman with a Ph.D. in molecular biology who left a promising scientific career to become a Tibetan monk, to revered singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen, who traded the pleasures of the senses for several years of living the near-silent life of meditation as a Zen monk.
A longtime essayist for
Time
magazine, Iyer is also a frequent contributor to the
New York Times
and many other publications across the globe. Born in Oxford, England, and raised between England and California, Iyer has been living for the past 25 years in rural Japan. Iyer will also be among the featured authors in Chapman University’s
Literary Pub(lishing) Crawl on Tuesday, April 12.
The event will be held at the newspaper’s main office, 625 N. Grand Ave., 92701. Doors open at 6 p.m. for the 7 p.m. program. Seating must be reserved online at
Eventbrite
.
The Book Carnival bookstore will have
The Art of Stillness
for sale at the event and also has copies available at the bookstore, 348 S. Tustin Street, in Orange.
