Cool music, warm nights — must be time for free Summer Concerts

Blue grass and doo-wop will fill the air this summer when Chapman University’s annual Free Friday Summer Concerts

The sounds of bluegrass and doo-wop will fill the air this summer when Chapman University’s annual Free Friday Summer Concerts return to beautiful Attallah Piazza.

Concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. and – of course! – there will be a free raffle at intermission. So dust off the picnic baskets and save the dates for:

Sligo Rags, Friday, July 17

Something magical happens when this award-winning band takes the stage. Think Celtic Folk meets bluegrass, with an occasional touch of country and gypsy jazz. Sligo Rags are a two-time winner of the Orange County Music Award for Best Folk Band. Their studio recording “The Whiskey Never Lies” was called “the best from the West Coast Celts in many years” by The Irish-American News. They’re frequent headliners at Scottish festivals throughout the region and are regular players at Disney’s California Adventure.

The Alley Cats, Friday, July 31

The a cappella group’s renditions of timeless doo-wop classics and their zany banter make them a fan favorite at Chapman’s summer concerts. The Alley Cats bring the same level of contagious and uplifting energy to every show, whether entertaining the president at the White House, or “edutaining” students in their nationally recognized arts education program. The Alley Cats have recorded six albums that showcase their rich harmonies as well as the energy and humor from their live shows.

The outdoor concerts are held on the Wells Fargo Stage in Attallah Piazza. The piazza opens for picnicking at 5 p.m. No grills, please. For more details, visit the Summer Concert web page.
