Want to lend a hand? There’s a job for everyone during annual Day of Service

Chapman University volunteers helped re-stripe the playground blacktop at a nearby school during a previous Day of Service. Sign-ups are under way now for Day of Service 2013.

Faculty, staff, alumni and Chapman University families are invited to roll up their sleeves and pitch in during Chapman’s Fifth Annual Day of Service on Friday, Oct. 4. The annual service day is held as part of the Chapman Family Homecoming Celebration and offers volunteers a choice of several local service agencies where they can help out worthwhile causes and work alongside friends and family.

Agencies include The Blind Children’s Learning Center, Illumination Foundation, OC Coastkeeper, OC Food Bank, Pretend City Children’s Museum, Working Wardrobes and the YMCA of Orange. Both morning and afternoon shifts are available, and there are tasks and assignments to fit a variety of skills.

But be sure to sign up early at the online registration site, says Justin Koppelman, assistant director of Student Engagement for Civic Engagement Initiatives.

“If you want to work with kids rather than worms, you might want to sign up early,” he says.
