Bestselling author David Sedaris returns to Chapman University for a talk and book-signing as part of the Distinguished Writers Series on Monday, Nov. 19, at 8 p.m. in Memorial Hall. Tickets for this public event are on sale now at $55 for preferred seating and $40 for the general public. Student tickets are $10. Call the Chapman box office at 714-628-2750 for more information, or visit the The Distinguished Writer Series website.
Sedaris will chat about his life and current events and read from some of his most popular works during his Chapman appearance, as well as participating in a Q&A with the audience. His most recent book, a collection of slightly askew animal fables entitled “Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary,” was published in 2010 and immediately hit the New York Times fiction bestseller list.
Entertainment Weekly has named Sedaris “the preeminent humorist of his generation.” He has been nominated for three Grammy Awards for Best Spoken Word and Best Comedy Album. Sedaris is the author of “Barrel Fever” and “Holidays on Ice,” as well as the acclaimed personal essay collections “Naked,” “Me Talk Pretty One Day,” “Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim” and “When You Are Engulfed in Flames.” He has contributed more than 40 essays to The New Yorker magazine and blog. Sedaris’s books have been translated into 25 languages and have sold more than 7 million copies worldwide.
Sedaris and his sister, actress-writer Amy Sedaris – under the collaborative name The Talent Family – have written half a dozen plays produced at La Mama, Lincoln Center and The Drama Department in New York City, including “Stump the Host,” “Stitches,” “One Woman Shoe,” “Incident at Cobbler’s Knob” and “The Book of Liz.” David Sedaris’ original radio pieces are distributed nationally by Public Radio International on “This American Life.”
A favorite of Chapman University audiences, Sedaris previously appeared at the University in 2010.
