The Wrecking Crew, a group of legendary studio musicians, are chronicled in a new documentary. Pictured is Tommy Tedesco, famed guitarist and member of The Wrecking Crew.

In L.A. during the 1960s, when you wanted to make a hit record, you hired “
The Wrecking Crew
,” a group of professional session musicians with talent for more than just playing back notes on a page. Now director/writer Denny Tedesco, son of the acclaimed guitarist and Wrecking Crew member Tommy Tedesco, has created a documentary film that chronicles these acclaimed but relatively unknown musical geniuses as well as L.A.’s pop-music heyday in the ‘60s, an era of all-night recording sessions in cramped, smoke-filled studios.

Tedesco’s film, “The Wrecking Crew,” will screen on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Folino Theater, Marion Knott Studios, as a benefit fund-raiser for the Orange Public Library Foundation and Orange Home Grown, which operates the Saturday Farmer’s Market on the Chapman University campus. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with the director, members of The Wrecking Crew and special guests.  It is reported that vocalist Bill Medley, famed as one-half of the hit-making duo the Righteous Brothers, will be on the panel, as will Jennifer Warnes, noted singer and songwriter of “Up Where We Belong,” “I’ve Had the Time of My Life” and many other hit tunes.

All seating is reserved – general admission is $20, and VIP seating is $100 (VIP ticket includes pre-screening cocktail party and photo opportunity with the celebrity guests).

Tedesco’s film is stocked with rare historical footage and interviews with original Wrecking Crew members, along with testimonials from music industry giants such as Dick Clark, Herb Alpert, Glen Campbell (who served as a Wrecking Crew member until he hit superstardom), Cher, Brian Wilson, Jimmy Webb, Gary Lewis and many more.   The musical soundtrack is a cavalcade of favorite hits by the likes of the Beach Boys, the Mamas and the Papas, Sonny and Cher, the Monkees, the Fifth Dimension and many more.
