The Earl Babbie Research Center, a new home for collaborative social science research, was dedicated Wednesday, March 21, at Smith Hall. Among the speakers at the ceremony was author and activist Ocean Robbins, who lauded the center’s mission of supporting and disseminating social science as being a service to “the well-being of our planet and all who inhabit it.”

The center was named for Professor Emeritus Babbie, Ph.D., an internationally recognized leader in the field of social science and author of The Practice of Social Research (first published in 1975), currently in its 12th English edition, with numerous non-English editions. The new center is overseen by a board of international scholars and will participate in and support research into human rights, social justice, peaceful solutions to social conflicts and environmental sustainability.
