Global Education expands study abroad opportunities at Swiss universities

In November Chapman University’s Director of Global Education James J. Coyle, Ph.D., visited three universities in Switzerland to determine whether they would be suitable exchange partners for Chapman students.

Dr. Coyle said two of the universities stood out and are now available to Chapman students seeking study abroad opportunities.  He found the University of Zurich to be a world-class institution.  The university is the home of 12 Nobel Laureates.  World famous scientist and Nobel laureate Albert Einstein was once a professor at Zurich.  The University of Zurich is a member of the League of European Research Universities, the top-tier of European research institutions.  Its business programs are both AACSB and Equis approved; its science classes include astrophysics, biochemistry, earth system sciences, etc.  While the primary language of instruction is German, there are approximately 35 courses in English any given semester.

Dr. Coyle was also impressed by the University of Fribourg, home to the only theater program in Switzerland, and a leading bilingual university.  Switzerland’s divide between French-speaking and German-speaking areas bisects the town.  As a result, the university is a mecca for language students.
