Two Chapman University students have been awarded NASA internships at the Goddard Space Flight Center.

Bryson Thill ‘12 will participate in the
Summer Institute in Earth Sciences
(SIES) program June 6 to Aug. 12, where he will work with Eyal Amitai, Ph.D., associate professor, School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Schmid College of Science, on the project entitled: “Evaluating Satellite Precipitations.”

“Only the top 11 student applicants from all over the country were accepted to the NASA SIES program,” said Dr. Amitai.  “It is a very prestigious program.”

Alumnus David Stack ’10, environmental science, has been awarded the
NASA DEVELOP
internship for summer 2011.  Stack is currently a student in the Hazards, Global and Environmental Change (HGEC) Graduate Program at Chapman’s
Schmid College of Science
.

This summer Stack will work at the Goddard Space Flight Center with NASA scientists and a team of other interns.  According to the DEVELOP website, Stack will research and conduct a project focused on one of the Applied Sciences Application Areas.

This program looks at a variety of issues, from ecological forecasting to climate change, using Earth science research to help decision-makers plan for environmental hazards that range from floods to droughts.

“While working at Goddard, I hope to learn many new skills and have experiences that I can then bring back and apply to my studies and work at Chapman,” said Stack.
