Chapman hosts experimental economics workshop

Last week the
Economic Science Institute,
with a generous grant from the International Foundation for Research in Experimental Economics (IFREE), hosted 24 doctoral students from universities all over the world for the Sixteenth Graduate Workshop in Experimental Economics.

Topics included electric power market research, asset market bubbles and financial crises, experimental/econometric measurement of preferences, group decision making, and collaborative experiments in virtual worlds, among others.

The 
IFREE
was established in 1997 by Nobel Laureate Vernon L. Smith, Ph.D., professor and the George L. Argyros Endowed Chair in Finance and Economics at Chapman University. The foundation’s mission is to support research and education in experimental economics.

ESI faculty presenting at the workshop included Steven Gjerstad, Ph.D., presidential fellow professor; Rob Kurzban, Ph.D., research associate professor; Stephen Rassenti, Ph.D., professor and ESI director; Nathaniel Wilcox, Ph.D., professor; and Bart Wilson, Ph.D., professor and the Donald P. Kennedy Endowed Chair in Economics and Law.

Argyros School of Business and Economics faculty presenting included Matthew McCarter, Ph.D., assistant professor; Roman Sheremeta, Ph.D., assistant professor; and Timothy Shields, Ph.D., assistant professor. Kevin McCabe, Ph.D., professor of economics and law at George Mason University was a visiting presenter.
