John Eastman, Chapman University School of Law professor and former dean, will be honored in coming weeks with several prestigious awards, including:
- The J. Reuben Clark Award, from the J. Reuben Clark Society, awarded annually to an attorney who has made outstanding contributions to the legal profession. The criteria is considered against the backdrop of the organization’s mission statement and the attitudes and values associated with J. Reuben Clark, Jr., who was a noted attorney known both for his ability and integrity.
- The St. Thomas More Award from Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio, for outstanding service in the law, primarily in recognition of Professor Eastman’s work as the founding Director of the Center for Constitutional Jurisprudence.
- “Catholic Attorney of the Year” award, to be presented by the St. Thomas More Society at the society’s annual “Red Mass” dinner, along with the “Catholic Judge of the Year Award,” which is being presented to California Court of Appeal Justice Kathleen O’Leary.
Professor Eastman is the Donald P. Kennedy Chair in Law at Chapman University School of Law, and also served as the School’s dean from June 2007 to January 2010, when he stepped down to pursue a bid for California attorney general. He is the founding director of the Center for Constitutional Jurisprudence, a public interest law firm affiliated with the Claremont Institute.
