[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hmgx75NPamQ&feature=player_embedded]If you’re reading this, you’re probably already a David Sedaris fan and you surely know all the answers to the quick Sedaris trivia quiz we’ve conjured up.

So what’s in it for you, you ask? A pair of free tickets to the upcoming Sedaris appearance in Memorial Hall at Chapman University, an $80 value, if we know our math.

Sedaris is the author of several bestselling books as well as droll essays heard on National Public Radio. His newest book is a collection of twisted fables titled Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary, which was well-reviewed in Sunday’s Los Angeles Times. The humorist will read his work and answer questions Oct. 27 beginning at 8 p.m. and stay for a book signing to follow at 9:30 p.m. Ticket information is available at the event website.

To celebrate his appearance, the first event in the re-established Distinguished Writers Series, we offer this trivia contest, open to Chapman University students, staff, faculty and alumni with a valid Chapman e-mail address. Here’s the drill: Send your answers in an e-mail to pr@chapman.edu and please put Sedaris Quiz in the subject line. Entries will be accepted until Oct. 22. Correct entries will go into a drawing for the tickets. Odds of winning are determined by the number of people who enter.

So, here you go. Have fun, and good luck!

  1. Many Sedaris fans first heard the humorist on NPR. In a well-known piece aired there, he recounts a holiday job working as a department store elf. What American jazz great did he emulate when he sang Away in a Manger?
  2. Together with his sister, Amy Sedaris, David Sedaris has written several plays, including one awarded an Obie Award. Which play won the Obie?
