Dawn BonkerThe Old Towne Preservation Association (OTPA) has awarded its 2017 Good Neighbor Award to Chapman University and its new Musco Center for the Arts.
The award recognizes new development in Old Towne Orange that demonstrates outstanding compatibility and harmony with neighboring historic structures. President Daniele Struppa and Kris Eric Olsen, vice president of campus planning and operations, accepted the award on behalf of the university at the association’s 21st annual awards gala on May 21.
The honor is the latest of several design awards for Musco Center. In April the real estate group Commercial Real Estate Women-Orange County (CREW-OC) named Musco Center the county’s top new construction project. In 2016, the Pfeiffer Partners-designed center also received a Citation Award from the American Institute of Architects Orange County Chapter, and an Award of Merit for its engineering from Engineering News Record.
The Good Neighbor Award is the seventh OTPA award for the University. Among them is the Spirit of Old Towne Award, presented to Chapman for the makeover of the former Mennonite Pilgrim Church at 145 W. Sycamore. Built in 1919, the church underwent extensive renovation and was transformed into a University residence.
