Documentary ‘Numbered’ to screen at Evening of Holocaust Remembrance

The award-winning documentary Numbered will be screened at this year’s Evening of Holocaust Remembrance and followed with a talk by the film’s cinematographer and director, Uriel Sinai. The annual remembrance hosted by the Rodgers Center for Holocaust Education will be held Tuesday, April 29, at 7 p.m. in Memorial Hall.

Numbered follows Holocaust survivors marked by the Nazis with numbered tattoos and explores the complex relationship they have with the numbers, as well as their families’ and society’s response to them. The film won the Silver Hugo Award at the Chicago International Film Festival.

Words of reflection will be offered by Rabbi Heidi Cohen and the Rev. Gail Stearns, Ph.D., dean of the Wallace All Faiths Chapel. A musical tribute will be presented by Cantor Chayim Frenkel of the Kehillat Israel Reconstructionist Congregation of Pacific Palisades. And as is tradition, the evening will include a ceremonial lighting of six candles in memory of the 6 million who perished in the Holocaust.

Admission is free. More information is available by contacting the Rodgers Center for Holocaust Education at (714) 628-7977 or RodgersCenter@chapman.edu.
