Make a difference in local community as an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer

Chapman University’s Civic Engagement Initiatives have been awarded their first AmeriCorps VISTA positions, to begin this summer at LibrerÍa MartÍnez de Chapman University. Alumni and graduating seniors applying to the AmeriCorps VISTA program are encouraged to indicate an interest in the LibrerÍa posts when filling out their applications, said Justin Koppelman, assistant director of Student Engagement for Civic Engagement Initiatives.

The two VISTAs will work in a mentoring program at the book store, helping to develop and implement a college and career readiness and mentoring program. The VISTAs will play a significant role in the development of curriculum as well as outreach programs to community agencies and prospective college student mentors.

VISTA was founded as Volunteers in Service to America in 1965 as a national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. In 1993, VISTA was incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs.

Applicants will need to apply via the AmeriCorps VISTA website. For more information about the VISTA assignments at LibrerÍa, contact Justin Koppelman at jkoppel@chapman.edu.

LibrerÍa MartÍnez de Chapman University, the unique bookstore partnership between community literacy advocate Ruebén MartÍnez and the College of Educational Studies, specializes in Spanish- and English-language children’s books and literacy programs.
