Didn’t get out for that run? Skipped the gym after work? No excuses now.
This summer the Julianne Argyros Fitness Center was spruced up with state-of-the-art fitness machines that offer treadmill jockeys a variety of perks, including interactive entertainment screens that can connect to Netflix, social media websites or software that will carry them away for a virtual workout in a far-flung setting. Anyone up for a brisk walk in Paris?
“It really does make working out fun,” says Michael Keyser, student union program coordinator and manager of the refurbished gym.
The fitness center reopens Monday, Aug. 26, under the management of Student Affairs and offers expanded hours for all faculty, staff and students as well. Operating hours are Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to midnight, and Saturdays and Sundays, 8 a.m. to midnight. At times during weekdays, mostly mornings, users should be aware that they will share the facility with credit-bearing fitness courses.
Keyser says the mission is to make the facility inviting to all.
“We want it to be a welcoming environment for everyone, no matter what their workout style is or their fitness background is,” he says.
In addition to the 30 new cardio machines, the refurbishing includes the addition of satellite radio, energy-efficient televisions along a mirrored wall and an impact-absorbing floor of recycled rubber.
Watch your email for a required waiver form which must be filled out prior to your first workout. Users are also asked to bring a towel and abide by a dress code that bans torn, ripped or modified workout clothes.

Just stopped by the new gym yesterday and it was a great experience. The entire space has been organized really well – there are more machines now but it feels like there is more space.
