Reminder: Compliance with Federal Work-Study Regulations

Please be aware of the following important regulations regarding student employment:

  1. No Payment During Instruction – Per federal code (34CFR 675.20(d)(2)), students cannot be paid while receiving instruction in the classroom. This includes PA and lab courses for which they earn credit. Students must not work during their scheduled class times.

  2. Class Cancellations – Even if a class is canceled, students are still not permitted to work during that scheduled time.

  3. Federal Work-Study (FWS) Earnings Tracking – Students working in more than one department under FWS are responsible for tracking their earnings and notifying supervisors when they are nearing their maximum FWS award.

Please note: if a student works during their scheduled class time, the employing department will be charged for those hours.

If you have questions, please reach out to Student Employment Services at studemp@chapman.edu.
