Important Reminder: Compliance With Federal Work-Study Regulations

As the start of the new academic year nears, we would like to send a reminder to please be aware of the following vital regulations regarding student employment:

  1. Prohibition of Payment During Instruction: According to code 34CFR 675.20(d)(2), students are prohibited from getting paid while receiving instruction in the classroom. This includes PA and lab courses for which the student is earning credit. Please ensure that students are kept from working during their scheduled class times.
  2. Class Cancellations: Students cannot work during their scheduled class times, even if the class is canceled for the day.
  3. Federal Work-Study (FWS) Earnings Tracking: Students working under FWS in more than one department are responsible for tracking their earnings and informing the supervisors in those departments when they are close to reaching their maximum FWS award.

Also, please remember that if students work during their scheduled class times, your department will be charged for those hours.

Thank you for your attention to these requirements. Your cooperation is crucial in maintaining compliance with federal regulations
