Chapman University President Daniele C. Struppa sent the following announcement to members of the Chapman Community on May 20, 2024.
Last Friday, I announced to the Board of Trustees my desire to retire as president.
I have been an administrator for more than thirty years, and while I have been able to teach and publish while serving in my administrative roles, I have increasingly missed devoting more of my time to those activities. I have had a lifelong love of math, and I want to spend the rest of my intellectual life immersed in it.
My last day as President of Chapman University will be September 1, 2025, when I will return to the mathematics faculty.
While we still have a full year ahead to work together, I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have supported me for the last 18 years at Chapman, 10 of which were as Chief Academic Officer.
I believe Chapman is living some of its best years: we are fiscally very strong, indicators such as enrollment, retention, and graduation all paint a picture of an institution in excellent health. And our comprehensive campaign thrives as we see a continuous flow of support from our friends in the community.
I am further convinced that Chapman’s best years lie ahead: we have a well-developed strategic plan, and we have already begun to look far into the future with ambitious and yet reachable goals for our institution.
As I return to the faculty, I will remain a strong and dedicated supporter of Chapman University. I look forward to working with all of you during the next year and hope you share my enthusiasm for the years ahead.
To begin the search for the next president, Chapman Board of Trustees Chair Parker Kennedy will appoint a formal search committee. More information on the search will be provided soon and throughout the process.
