Dennis ArpFour talented high school seniors from underserved communities have earned full-ride scholarships to Chapman University thanks to the generosity of donors and the Women in Entertainment Mentorship Program.
The announcement was made Dec. 7 during the annual Hollywood Reporter Women in Entertainment breakfast gala in Los Angeles. The event is held in conjunction with publication of The Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment Power 100 List.
“The Women in Entertainment Mentorship Program exemplifies everything we hold most dear: a belief that education can truly change people’s lives,” said Stephen Galloway, dean of Chapman’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. “We’re fully committed to supporting the brilliant high school students who take part in the program in any way we can — and we’re enormously grateful to Paramount, Spotify, the Chuck Lorre Family Foundation and NATO [National Association of Theatre Owners] for helping us fund four full-ride scholarships this year.”
High school seniors Jazmine Guido, Rebecca Mabamjie, Jasmine Ramirez and Karen Sanchez will be attending Chapman in the fall with the support of the scholarship and mentorship program.
The Women in Entertainment program pairs students with highly successful Hollywood executives, giving students from underserved communities a leg up on college and career success. Guido was mentored by Audrey Rowe of Creative Artists Agency (CAA), Mabamjie by Randi Matthews of Multi-Hyphen Media, Ramirez by Ann Murphy of CAA, and Sanchez by Gabriela Zapata of Netflix.
“When I first signed up for the program, I was doubting myself, but I went for it, and I got it,” Mabamjie said after receiving her scholarship at the Women in Entertainment event. “Now, thanks to my mentor, Randi, I have so much more confidence. When I visited Chapman, I thought, ‘This is where I’m gonna be – I want to be one of those college students.’”
Jamie Lee Curtis, Janelle Monáe, Margot Robbie, Gracie Abrams and Addison Rae were among the entertainment industry leaders speaking and presenting scholarships during the Women in Entertainment breakfast event.
Over the years, more than 250 students have participated in the Women in Entertainment program, which has provided better than $12 million in scholarship support.
