Celebrating Student Life Through Argyros Forum’s Unique Galleries

Argyros Forum is always alive with visual stories that reflect the energy, creativity, and pride of Chapman University students. Throughout the year, its gallery spaces showcase the many ways students make an impact on campus and beyond.

One of the most prominent displays on the first floor of Argyros Forum is the Celebrating Student Success gallery, which highlights individuals and student organizations who have received meaningful recognition from Chapman or from outside the campus community. These exhibits rotate only a few times annually, ensuring that each installation offers a carefully curated glimpse into the Chapman experience.

To start the 2025 academic year, the spotlight is on Fee Funded Groups, including the University Program Board (UPB), Student Government Association (SGA), The Panther, and Chapman Radio. Through photographs and memorabilia, the gallery captures the passion and teamwork of these groups by showcasing behind-the-scenes action at some of Chapman’s most memorable events.

“The contributions that our students and student organizations make to our community – both on and off campus – are truly remarkable,” said Dean of Students and Senior Vice President for Student Affairs Jerry Price. “These contributions deserve to be highlighted and celebrated, and the Student Union is the perfect place to do so. Not only is it in the hub of student activity, but the gallery is also in one of the most high-traffic areas of campus, so the exhibits are seen by Chapman faculty, staff, and visitors as well as students.”

Positioned directly across from the Celebrating Student Success gallery, the wall wrap is getting a fresh new look. Building on the history of the Greetings from Chapman design that was showcased near Qdoba, this updated version keeps the playful, postcard-style concept that students loved while introducing a new “Welcome to Chapman” message. Created in collaboration with students, the bright and inviting mural features each letter filled with cartoon illustrations of iconic campus landmarks and memorable moments from student life, making it an eye-catching invitation for all who pass through the exhibit.

Beyond these signature features, Argyros Forum is home to other galleries that capture the traditions and creative voices of Chapman students. The Student Traditions gallery, located along AF 119 hallway, celebrates both long-standing and emerging customs, with recent installations showcasing orientation highlights like the Candle Lighting Ceremony, Move-In Day, and Play Fair, alongside images from athletics, study abroad experiences, and signature campus events such as Midnight Breakfast and Spring Sizzle.

Located in the northeast corridor of Argyros Forum, the CURATE 119 gallery offers a monthly rotation of student-created and interactive exhibits coordinated by Student Union staff. For the start of the academic year, the space features Chapman spirit boards where visitors can test their Panther knowledge and play Panther Experience bingo.

“Curate 119 has been an experiment in understanding students’ engagement with art,” said Student Union Program Coordinator Karla Monterrey. “Our Student Union Assistants work to create new, interactive, and educational exhibits that students are able to participate in while they are on their way to classes. This is our way in connecting with students in a less traditional fashion and complements the various events we host in the Student Union.”

Together, these elements make Argyros Forum more than just a hub for student life; it’s a living gallery of the Chapman experience, celebrating our vibrant campus community’s past, present, and future.
