Hey there! We’re Ryan and Waverly, two current Chapman students who spend a lot of time hanging out in Old Towne Orange. Whether you’re visiting for a campus tour, beginning your Chapman journey or are a current student looking for new experiences in our community, we’ve got you covered with some of our favorite things to do just steps from campus.
Here are five things we recommend when you’re in Orange:
1. Grab a coffee or tea
If you need a caffeine fix or are just looking for a cozy spot to unwind, Orange has plenty of amazing places to grab coffee, boba or tea. You’ll find everything from classic cold brews to oat milk matcha lattes and specialty teas (plus, most spots offer delicious pastries as well). Some of our favorites include Play Coffee (pictured), Philz Coffee, and Contra Coffee & Tea.
2. Shop around
Old Towne Orange is full of unique shopping experiences, with many stores run by local small business owners. From thrift and antique stores to novelty shops, record stores and local plant boutiques, this area has something for every kind of shopper. Whether you’re after vintage treasures, quirky finds or one-of-a-kind gifts, you’ll always find something worth browsing. A few gems we recommend you check out are Casa Lulo (pictured) for Orange-themed apparel, gifts and decor, Mr C’s Rare Records for a wide range of vinyl records and DeeLux for modern and vintage thrift finds.
3. Explore the Farmers Market
If you’re visiting on a Saturday, you have to swing by the Orange Home Grown Farmers & Artisans Market. It’s held on Palm Avenue, directly in front of Dodge College and The K Residence Hall, and features fresh produce, local vendors, handmade goods and live music. The market is deeply integrated with the Chapman community, and many students get involved by volunteering or interning. Additionally, the market features a Chapman Day once a year, where students can get discounts and special offers from vendors!
4. Grab a bite
From burgers to sushi, pad thai to tacos, there’s no shortage of incredible places to eat in Orange. Whether you’re dining with family or grabbing a quick bite between classes, with so many options, it’s easy to find something you’ll love. Plus, many restaurants offer Chapman student discounts! Some must-try spots we recommend are Urth Caffé (pictured), The Taco Stand and Blue Bowl Superfoods.
5. Just chill
Sometimes the best part of visiting Orange is simply taking a moment to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The Circle offers plenty of comfortable spots to soak up the California sun, catch up on homework and hang out with friends. It is also a vibrant hub for community events throughout the year, like the International Street Fair, annual car shows and seasonal favorites such as Treats in the Streets and the Holiday Tree Lighting—so there is always something fun happening nearby!
Whether you’re exploring with family, friends or on your own, you’ll always find something to do in Old Towne Orange. It’s walkable, welcoming and full of personality—just like the Chapman community.
See you around the Circle!
