Free Screening of “Behind the Lines” 7:15 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 7, Folino Theater

Directed by Professor John B. Benitz, “Behind the Lines” is inspired by two New York Times bestselling books by Presidential Fellow Andrew Carroll, WAR LETTERS and BEHIND THE LINES. The film follows Andrew’s trek, starting in 1998, to all 50 states and 40 countries, including three war zones, to seek out war-related correspondences.

Harrowing, heartfelt and surprisingly humorous at times, Andrew’s journey led to the creation of the Center for American War Letters at Chapman University, which now has more than 200,000 letters and emails from every conflict in U.S. history and the numbers keep growing as the mission continues.

Narrated by Annette Bening, “Behind the Lines” has letter readings and commentary by a star-studded cast, including Laura Dern, Common, Paul Walter Hauser, DeWanda Wise, Gary Cole, Kelvin Harrison Jr., and many more.

President Daniele C. Struppa will host the event and moderate a Q&A with the filmmakers after the screening.
