Chapman University was recently featured in the Orange County Business Journal’s annual Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) special report, which highlights 54 organizations leading the charge in creating inclusive environments. Chapman’s effort to better reflect the demographics of Orange County has earned the university recognition as an emerging Hispanic-Serving Institution.
“The DEI work we do is only possible because of our communities,” said Gabriela Castaneda, assistant vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion and director for Hispanic/Latinx achievement. “Our approach involves collaboration with organizations like the OC Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Our partners are crucial, and having diverse representatives in our office to interact with them makes all the difference.”
Chapman’s commitment to diversity also extends to its Premier Employer Partner Program (PEPP), which connects employers with top talent through tailored recruitment strategies. The program includes career fairs, on-campus interviews, and networking opportunities, giving Chapman students real-world experience. Jennifer Kim, associate vice president of career and professional development, highlighted that 70% of students graduate with hands-on industry experience, making them valuable recruits.
