Chapman University inaugurated a new tradition this year by awarding the first Family of the Year award to Seimone and Mylene Jurjis, parents of Kaden Jurjis ’26.
The award was presented during the 2024 Parent Spring Summit, an annual event that welcomes parents and family members of students to campus. The two-day event offers programming designed to help family members better support their students’ success while at Chapman.
The Family of the Year award is a unique recognition that honors the dedication and involvement of Chapman family members. Students were invited to nominate a person or people who they felt deserved the award, and the heartwarming submissions provided a peek into the countless ways families show up to support their students and Chapman.
“Your participation in Parent Spring Summit and the ongoing support you give your students speaks volumes to your commitment to your student’s success,” said Elizabeth Sanchez, parent and family engagement manager, during the award presentation. “Today, we recognize you all for everything you do.”
Seimone and Mylene Jurjis were recognized for remaining engaged with Chapman, staying informed about campus happenings, supporting other parents and lending their expertise to events like Homecoming and Parent Spring Summit.
“Seimone and Mylene have been steadfast pillars of support, providing unconditional love, nurturing guidance and unwavering dedication that has shaped their student’s journey,” Sanchez said. “Even as Kaden grows older, they continue to play an integral role in their life, providing invaluable preparation for adulthood and making significant contributions to the university community.”
Hannah Vu was awarded an honorable mention for her outstanding efforts and unwavering commitment to the values that define the Chapman Family. Vu’s student, Lorna, shared that she deserves this award for adopting students into her family during their time at Chapman.
“You continue to exude Chapman spirit, and you have greatly influenced your student’s life by teaching her to never stop working hard,” Sanchez said.
Sanchez encourages family members to reach out to the Office of Parent and Family Engagement for resources, special programs and events, volunteer opportunities and more.
“We’re here to support your journey, just like you are supporting your students,” she said.
