Inspiring the Next Generation of Healthcare Workers
DATE: Wednesday, February 21, 2024 7:00 a.m. arrival, 7:15 a.m. program starts.
SUBJECT: Chapman University PA Students and Beckman High School Collaborate to Shape Future Healthcare Leaders.
WHAT: Over 100 public high school students in the Medical Certificate Program will gather before school to attend Medical Skills Day at Beckman High School. Chapman University PA students volunteer to teach essential medical skills ranging from basic CPR, injection practice (on prosthetic arms!), bedside manner, and how to suture wounds with medical tools.
Rarely do you see high school students so excited to be up at such an early hour. This highly visual engaging story showcases a community coming together to address the continued need for medical professionals.
By 2060, one in three Orange County residents will be over the age of 65. This region not only needs more health care workers, it needs professionals trained to serve an aging population. Chapman University is prepared to meet this demand.
Young teens experience 10 medical stations including suturing, bedside manner, mechanics of CPR, core foundational medical skills. Last year over 100 high schoolers participated.Beckman AP Biology Teacher, Phillip Chow, “ Our students are learning, the Chapman students are practicing their teaching skills and to share their passion and knowledge with the next generation, and our whole community benefits. I think that’s what I love most about our program is bringing our community together.”
