Leatherby Libraries Honored With 2024 LEAD Award for Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion

Chapman University’s Leatherby Libraries was named a recipient of the inaugural Insight Into Diversity magazine 2024 Library Excellence in Access and Diversity (LEAD) Award. Recognizing outstanding commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), the LEAD Award acknowledges Leatherby Libraries’ initiatives in research, technology, accessibility, exhibitions and community outreach.

“As I reflect on the library’s DEI efforts, I must give credit to every member of the Leatherby Libraries team,” said Leatherby Libraries Assistant Dean for Library DEI Initiatives and Development Essraa Nawar. “The library’s DEI plan focuses on collective action in all our efforts. This award is a living evidence of the library’s continuing commitment to creating a climate that strives for inclusive excellence.”

As one of the featured winners, Leatherby Libraries will be showcased in the March 2024 issue of Insight Into Diversity magazine, exemplifying its dedication to creating an inclusive academic environment and sharing insights for the broader community.

“We continue to respond to students, faculty and community needs,” added Nawar. “Diversity is a multidimensional concept and we continue to look at it daily to raise awareness and reduce obstacles in learning and research.”
