Chapman Moves to “Medium” COVID-19 Community Level

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has moved Orange County to the medium COVID-19 community level. With the increase in COVID-19 cases at Chapman and in the region, paired with a significant increase in both the flu and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), we ask that you increase your diligence in the protocols proven to slow the spread of these viruses within the Chapman and broader community.

Please take personal responsibility for your health and review the protocols outlined on the CU Staying Healthy website. Know your risk, protect yourself, take action if you are exposed to COVID-19 or other viruses, and take action if you are sick or test positive. Faculty are kindly asked to accommodate classwork for students who are unwell and unable to attend class.

Chapman encourages four primary protocols to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 and other viruses:

  • Masks: If you are at high risk of getting very sick, wear a high-quality mask or respirator. Face coverings are highly recommended if you have symptoms, test positive or are exposed to someone with COVID-19.

  • Vaccination: The university recommends, but does not require that all faculty, staff and students who are eligible get a fall COVID booster and a flu shot.

  • Testing: The university continues to provide on-campus testing at no cost to Chapman community members at the COVID-19 Testing Center, 145 Sycamore Avenue, in Orange, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.  5 p.m. Testing kits also are available in the Public Safety office at the Rinker campus.

  • Daily Health Screen: Faculty, staff, students and visitors to campus must complete the health screening daily.  Stay home if you are sick.

With Chapman’s move to the medium COVID-19 community level, beginning Monday, December 5, we will:

  • Place monitors at high-traffic building entrances to check required “Clear” messages after the completion of the Daily Health Screen.

  • Increase campus and surface cleaning.

  • Require visitors to complete the Visitor Health Survey when accessing campus buildings or attending events.

The task force will continue to monitor the developments in the county, nationally and internationally, and keep our campus informed as these shifts impact our Chapman community.
