Hilbert Museum to Reopen Mar. 31

The long awaited reopening of Chapman University’s Hilbert Museum of California Art is (almost) here! After closing to the public in November 2020 because of COVID-19 restrictions, the museum is excited to announce its re-opening set for Wednesday, March 31. Admission is free. Temporary limited hours will be as follows:

  • Tuesdays – Fridays: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, Sunday, Monday: Closed.  

Current Exhibitions

The Hilbert Museum’s current exhibitions, extended from last fall, include “Los Angeles Area Scene Paintings” (through June 26) and, in the movie art galleries, a collection of original animation cels from the 1988 Disney hit “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” (through May 1). Another exhibition to look forward to opening April 14: “George Samerjan: Paris to L.A.” 

The Hilbert Museum is currently recruiting volunteer docents. Please express interest by emailing hilbertmuseum@chapman.edu.

Plan Your Visit With Health and Safety Measures in Mind

The Hilbert Museum follows all current COVID-19 safety measures as established by Chapman University:

  • Face masks worn over nose and mouth are required for all staff, volunteers and visitors in the galleries.
  • Visitor capacity at any one time during opening hours is limited to 12 visitors or “pods” (up to four people who arrive together) of visitors.
  • Six feet of social distancing will be maintained between visitors or “pods.”
  • Plexi shields are installed at all desks.
  • Hand sanitizer dispenser is located at front doors.
  • There will be no guided tours or large groups until further notice.
  • The premises are cleaned and disinfected regularly. 

Hilbert Museum is located at 167 N. Atchison St. in Orange, across from the Orange train station. There is free parking in front of the museum and in the City of Orange/Metrolink Parking Structure at 130 N. Lemon Street, less than a block from the museum.
