Congratulations to This Week’s Service Plan of Recognition Recipients

We are proud to name this week’s Service Plan of Recognition awardees for their extraordinary work as Chapman responds to COVID-19. Each staff and administrator selected embodies the dedication and integrity that continues to drive and strengthen Chapman University.

This week’s recipients are: 

Joe Barrett, senior academic advisor, Office of the Provost

Joe managed summer placement testing inquiries from incoming students, including working with faculty to troubleshoot issues. He processed hundreds of language and math test scores so students could register in the correct classes on time. – LB Brown

Heidi Choi, academic advisor, Office of the Provost

Heidi worked diligently to become our Zoom expert and has helped the AAC team learn best practices for doing advising via Zoom. She created a working model for online small group sessions for new students, orientation and fall events. – LB Brown

Tanaz Nourian, counselor UG admission, Office of Admission

Not only did she develop an Admission Podcast but is stellar in virtual presentations.  From a high school counselor today, “Tanaz is truly an amazing counselor.  Her engagement with students is remarkable…by far the best visit we have had this year.” – Jim Whitaker and Mike Pelly

Sadie Reeves, assistant director, Office of Admission

Sadie is balancing all her virtual high school visits while at the same time supporting all the virtual events we have for prospective students. – J. Whitaker & M. Pelly

Tracy Rastello, assistant director, Admission Communications, Office of Admission

Tracy has been instrumental in redesigning Discover Chapman Day for prospective students into our virtual Discover Chapman Events comprised of a month’s long array of virtual events bringing Chapman to potential new students. – J. Whitaker & M. Pelly

Olga Magana, operations manager, Sodexo

Olga Magana is our Operations Manager for retail and has worked hard to get the Starbucks and Rinker café open during this COVID period. It is no small task to accomplish with all the requirements to do so. – Eric Cameron

Martha Castrejon, talent acquisition specialist, Human Resources

Martha is a wonderful example of how to embody the Chapman Experience: she’s passionate about providing individualized care and exceptional service to her colleagues.  She’s also a wonderful example of how to stay nimble and flexible in a constantly changing work environment, and has successfully facilitated each project she’s been asked to lead. – Rachael Martin

Devon Marlink, client services technician 2, IS&T

Devon continues to go over and beyond the call of duty in providing customer service to the Chapman community. He is always patient and optimistic about finding a solution. His sense of humor and positivity helps turn issues into success. – Helen Norris

Brenda Beckett, classification and compensation analyst, Human Resources

IS&T has had many HR needs during the pandemic.  Brenda has assisted to ensure we that we can have appropriate staffing to support the campus.  She always responds in a timely manner and is willing to investigate to get to the root cause of an issue. – Helen Norris

Crystal Barney, associate director of budget planning and systems, Budget Office

Crystal has been an excellent mentor for us. We had to make many revisions to the budgets due to the pandemic, and she is always willing to jump on a call for questions. – Helen Norris

Craig Williams, accessibility technology analyst, IS&T

Craig has managed the daily COVID email clearance system for many months. He has remained focused on this critical part of our safety procedures, even with the dramatic increase of faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students now returning to campus. – Helen Norris

David Troast, parking & transportation officer, Public Safety, Parking & Transportation Services

David played a vital role in the preparation and staffing for the care package distribution and Flu shot events.  His dedication to teamwork ensured a smooth event that followed safety protocols. – Randy Burba

Gary Bruton, public safety officer, Public Safety

Officer Bruton has stepped up to provide invaluable assistance to the parking and transportation division of public safety.  He helped facilitate the logistics for the food truck service on Wednesday evenings at Chapman Grand. – Randy Burba

Maria’s dedication to the Chapman Experience has been exemplified in her willingness to volunteer to assist not only with the Care Package Distribution Event but also with the Flu Shot Clinic ensuring these events could happen safely. – Randy Burba
