Congratulations to this Week’s Service Plan of Recognition Recipients

We are proud to name this week’s Service Plan of Recognition awardees for their extraordinary work as Chapman responds to COVID-19. Each staff and administrator selected embodies the dedication and integrity that continues to drive and strengthen Chapman University.

This week’s recipients are: 

Ava Faletoi, processing specialist, Office of Admission

Despite losing her 5-student support team for processing mail and other documents for admission, Ava has stepped up and has kept operations running smoothly in order to provide the best possible service for our incoming students. —Mike Pelly

Joanne Phillips, senior processing specialist, Office of Admission

Joanne’s sense of humor, positive attitude and outstanding work ethic has kept us going during our essential service weekly one day in office. She can still get all the admit packets and letters printed and sent even in a remote environment. —Mike Pelly

Monica Brazil, social media and communications administrative assistant, Office of Admission

Monica was instrumental in helping us plan our social media strategy while filling in for Tracy Rastello, who is out on leave. She helped build our virtual events team and sent important and timely messages to our prospective students. —Mike Pelly

Steven Anderson, executive kitchen manager, Sodexo

Steven has continued to lead the charge to serve our community here at Chapman, working so hard to develop food service in these uncertain times. —Eric Cameron

Corey Winton, mail clerk II, Mailing Services

Coming from the FM set-up crew, Corey is one of the newest members to the Mailing Services team. He quickly adapted to an ever-changing environment. His ability to embrace change has served him well during this pandemic. —Rick Turner

Bryan Mateik, mail clerk II, Mailing Services

Bryan understands the need to make things appear normal, even when they are not. His leadership & commitment to the campus community during this crisis has created a sense of calm for his colleagues and aided in the department’s goals. —Rick Turner

Kati Bye, executive assistant facilities Management, Facilities Management

Kati has been instrumental in managing FM & PM mail and processing invoices from our many vendors. She has continued to be our onsite point of contact, serving FM departments with many new challenges created by the remote environment. —Rick Turner

Bao Ngo, associate director of HR systems, Human Resources

We celebrate Bao’s willingness to jump in and provide support for our working remotely operations, from complex data sets used by the CHRO to web updates and push messaging. We appreciate his continued availability and mission support. —Brian Powell

Chris Riffey, senior systems administrator, IS&T

Chris provided excellent customer service to staff, faculty and students. His technical and teamwork skills were key strengths that supported the team in being able to transition our users to work remotely. —Helen Norris

Ponh King, systems administrator, IS&T

Ponh supports faculty teaching remotely while fulfilling his own responsibilities on the Server Team. He has tested various settings and features in Zoom to support faculty. He does a lot behind the scenes to support our staff and faculty. —Helen Norris

James Kelly, research systems administrator, IS&T

James has provided tremendous support for online teaching. He has learned the tools and software quickly and has even made support documentation and videos. He is incredibly patient and knowledgeable. —Helen Norris

Rose Yap-Fryman, sr. programmer/analyst, IS&T

Rose volunteered to participate on the team that supported faculty teaching remotely and worked long hours to provide service to them. She’s also continued to provide data to departments across campus, including the Provost’s Office and HR. —Helen Norris

These three officers, assigned to Rinker, have done tremendous work keeping the Rinker campus safe and assisting various faculty and staff with many special requests for assistance. —Randy Burba

Al Rodriguez, sergeant, Department of Public Safety

Sergeant Rodriquez continues to regularly liaise with OPD to work on good neighbor issues and provide helpful feedback and resources. —Randy Burba

Josh Hinson, officer, Department of Public Safety

Officer Hinson is consistently on bike patrol and quick to respond to calls. He has been diligent in admonishing trespassers and looking out for safety concerns. —Randy Burba

Bob Kasai, officer, Department of Public Safety

Bob has volunteered to participate in a peer support group designed to assist co-workers. He was very forthcoming and helpful during the initial training for the program. Supportive and engaged. —Randy Burba

Bob Kluck, sergeant, Department of Public Safety

Bob helped orchestrate the response of IPD, OCFA and our own Environment Health and Safety Department to coordinate around an incident of spilled gasoline. —Randy Burba

Alan Gonzalez, officer, Department of Public Safety

Officer Gonzalez has been very vigilant and disciplined about safeguarding Chapman Grand.  He developed a patrol protocol that help ensure coverage and safety for the residents. —Randy Burba

Natalie Del Rio, IRB/FCOI administrator, Office of Research

Natalie has done a great job prioritizing the COVID-19 research that is time-sensitive and facilitating timely reviews so faculty and students can conduct research on this important topic. —Tom Piechota

Jules Paholio, videographer and photographer, Strategic Marketing and Communications

Jules has captured footage for tour videos and messages which support the efforts of the Admission Office to communicate to prospective students, while making sure that the health and wellbeing of the talent is taken into consideration. —Jamie Ceman

Stace Dumoski, writer, Strategic Marketing and Communications

Stace is talented, dedicated and fast – all qualities at a premium in the midst of the current situation. She is responsible for so much of the communication coming out of Chapman right now and her work is always excellent. —Jamie Ceman

Melissa Lewis, data and systems analyst, Office of Career and Professional Development

While some universities pause their career-related events, Melissa is behind the scenes redesigning programming for virtual recruiting events. Her new procedures have contributed to a world-class experience for employers and students. —Franciska Morlet

Kate Berry, assistant director, Institutional Support, Strategic Engagement and Development

Kate returned from maternity leave and jumped back into action by securing new major gifts for Chapman. Kate is passionate about donor engagement, especially in the virtual environment! She steps up to the plate and supports Chapman. —Delite Travis

Lilly Moscoso, operations administrator, University Advancement

Lilly jumped in to support the Advancement Systems and University Events teams with scheduling, donor correspondence and more. She is quick to take on new assignments and is willing to learn many new things with a positive approach. —Michele Wanner
