That little smartphone in your pocket can now be a big help when it comes to staying safe on campus. The
Rave Panther Guardian
is a new app introduced by the Department of Public Safety that can turn your smartphone into a personal safety device.
Like that parental admonition “Call me when you get there,” the Rave Panther Guardian helps boost peace of mind and safety. It allows you to:
- Set a Safety Timer and ask trusted friends or family members to check in on you at a specific time if you’re headed to an unfamiliar place or walking to your car late at night.
- Make a direct emergency call to Public Safety and send texts and photos if you see something suspicious.
- Invite a family member or friend to be your app Guardian and communicate with them within the app.
- Create a Smart911 Safety Profile with specific information about medical conditions and much more.
Mark Davis, fire and life safety officer at Chapman, said the app is “just another tool for people to use,” along with the campus call boxes and security escorts that are also available at any hour.
The app is free to anyone with a current chapman.edu or mail.chapman.edu email. Profile data are stored securely and cannot be used to track the user’s location unless a 911 call is made or a safety timer expires. Learn more at the
