Rodgers Center event to feature rare gathering of four Kristallnacht survivors

Chapman University’s Rodgers Center for Holocaust Education has planned two days of special programs to commemorate the 75
^th
anniversary of
Kristallnacht
, the violent November night in 1938 that became a turning point in Nazi anti-Jewish policy.

Four Holocaust survivors and Kristallnacht witnesses will share their memories in a panel titled “Four Perspectives on Kristallnacht: 75 Years Later” from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, in the Wallace All Faiths Chapel of the Fish Interfaith Center. The special guests include Engelina Lowenberg Billauer, Curt Lowens, Idele Steuer Stapholtz and Cantor Leopold Szneer.

Faculty participants in the panel will be Michael Bazyler, professor, Fowler School of Law; Marilyn Harran, Ph.D., professor, Department of History and Stern Chair in Holocaust Education; Stefan Ionescu, research associate, Rodgers Center; Jennifer Keene, Ph.D., professor and chair, Department of History; Shira Klein, Ph.D., assistant professor, Department of History; and Keff Koerber, research associate, Rodgers Center.

At 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, the Rodgers Center, Fish Interfaith Center, Hillel and the Chapman Interfaith Council will host the annual Interfaith Service of Remembrance for Kristallnacht. Guest speaker will be The Honorable Richard Fybel, son of Holocaust survivors and an associate justice for the California Court of Appeal.
