What the kale — watch this video and make food science students smile

Who would make a video starring chocolate kale cupcakes and food science students in dapper lab coats reading textbooks about SPAM and taste “testing” cabernet sauvignon?

Chapman University’s Food Science College Bowl Team, of course. And now they’re hoping the Chapman community will help them out with a few views of the video, posted on YouTube. But you’ll have to be quick and view it today, Friday, June 14, to push up the number of views to help them beat out the other universities with competing videos.

The team of five students from the Schmid College of Science and Technology graduate program created the video for the Institute of Food Technologists’ Poppy Awards. The Poppy Awards challenge students to create short videos illustrating why it’s cool to be a food geek. The winning team will be honored at the IFT Annual Meeting and Food Expo next month in Chicago. There the team will also compete in the more serious and rigorous College Food Bowl. This is the fifth year out of six that Chapman’s team has qualified for the national competition. This year’s food bowl team includes Alex Wendling, Karen Thang, Greg Yudin, Kimberlee Au, Amber Hoekstra and Kelly Sparks.
