Freshman class arrives toting ukuleles, energy and impressive credentials

A sea of shopping carts awaits families unpacking cars on move-in day.

Members of the Chapman University class of 2016 moved into their residence halls today, August 21, toting teddy bears, lacrosse sticks, ukuleles, trumpets, laptops, favorite coffee mugs, treasured pillows and a whole lot of eager expectations as they begin a six-day orientation program.

But don’t let the fun stuff fool you. The new freshman class arrives with impressive credentials, too, including an average GPA of 3.7. It is also a geographically diverse bunch, representing 43 states and 33 nations.

Here’s wishing everyone a great year. And a lot of ukulele serenades.
