OC-centric brings new plays to campus over next two weekends, discount tickets available


OC-centric: Orange County’s New Play Festival
returns to campus this month with full productions of five new works from Orange County playwrights.

Under the artistic direction of Chapman University associate professor Tamiko Washington, Chapman theatre majors work side-by-side with professional actors and directors in this exciting event. Supported generously by a Chapman University grant, OC-centric is promoted across the Southland and is quickly becoming a destination for exciting new theatre.

Tickets are just $12 for Chapman students, staff and faculty and may be reserved at 714-902-5716. Please identify yourself as a student, staff member or faculty member. Performances run through the next two weekends in Moulton Hall’s Studio Theatre. For a full festival schedule, visit OC-centric.

Performances include:

August 17-18 and August 25-26
“The Dirt and Its Harp in Her Mouth” by Megan Breen, a Southern Gothic Cain-and-Abel story coming-of-age drama that digs into the emotional struggles of Charlie, a 15-year-old tomboy who relishes the dirt of her East Texas landscape and her new harmonica. Directed by Tamiko Washington.

August 18-19 and August 24-25
“Isosceles” by John Lane, a man goes home with a classy woman he meets at a gallery opening to enter the strange world she shares with her brother. Directed by Paul Tavianini.

“Obsession” by Colleen Bevacqua, a stranded person consumed with an affliction is discovered by others who offer resolve. Directed by Richard Stein.

“Shrink” by Sydney Nikols, a psychiatrist and a 17-year-old girl discuss issues surrounding self-loathing, leading them to relate on a surprising and personal level. Directed by Andrea Andresakis.

“Thug 4 Life” by Ken La Salle, an aging white cynic and a young man of color are backed up against the cold realities of life. Only when they meet one another do they find anything like the truth. Directed by Mark Majarian.
