Leatherby Libraries Board launches endowment with study carrel naming project

Leatherby Libraries formally launched the Leatherby Libraries Endowment Friday, June 1, with the naming of 31 second and third-floor study carrels at a reception honoring the program’s inaugural supporters.

The Leatherby Libraries Board created the program as a means to build an endowment that will support research, teaching and the libraries’ development as a “premium portal to the world’s knowledge,” said Charlene Baldwin, dean of the Leatherby Libraries. The endowment will also support special events, speaker series, exhibits, and other activities sponsored by the Leatherby Libraries.

To honor a special person, organization, family member or event, donors gave $1,861 – an amount that also honors the University’s 1861 beginning. Plaques bearing the donor and honoree names were affixed to the study carrels throughout the second and third-floor study area and unveiled at the reception. As of last week 17 carrels were still available for naming.
