Menas Kafatos, Ph.D., dean of Chapman’s Schmid College of Science and Technology, has been named the recipient of the 2011 Distinguished Leadership and Professional Service award of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Orange County Section. He received the award at IEEE-OC’s annual awards banquet, held Oct. 29 in Costa Mesa, Calif. The award is given to recognize IEEE members who, through their professional and technical abilities, have made outstanding and noteworthy contributions to the Institute, their communities, fellow professionals and fellow man. The award pays tribute to collective contributions complemented by singular works exemplifying the objectives and attributes of IEEE.
“I am extremely honored to receive this award,” said Dean Kafatos. “IEEE is, of course, the largest professional society in the world, and its Orange County Section is very active and covers many areas of engineering and technology. The recognition also reflects well upon the Schmid College of Science and Technology and upon Chapman University itself.”
