Campus to mark 9/11 with service, work, interfaith reflection

Chapman University will commemorate the 10
th
anniversary of the September 11 disaster with a variety of events, including a day of community service, a veteran’s observance and an interfaith remembrance. Events include:

  • The “9/11 Remembrance and Military Law Institute Open House” will begin with a brief ceremony and playing of Taps in honor of U.S. service men and women and veterans at its offices directly across from campus at 328 N. Glassell St. An open house and tours of the institute’s new offices and information about its veteran programs will follow. A new commemorative piece of art will be displayed and refreshments served.
  • Student Day of Service in Remembrance of 9/11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10. This year’s work day focuses on awareness of water conservation. Students will work with the Orange County Coastkeeper Demonstration Garden at Santiago College, weeding, building a bridge, installing weed block on dry riverbeds, and digging irrigation trenches.  Space is limited and advance registration is required by e-mailing sce@chapman.edu.   • The campus community and public are invited to attend “911 Remembrance: An Interfaith Experience” at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, sponsored by The Fish Interfaith Center and the Interfaith Peace Ministry of Orange County. Students and community members from various religious and spiritual backgrounds will share in moments of lamentation and hope by way of musical performance, poetry and personal reflection.  The remembrance will be held in the Wallace All Faiths Chapel, Fish Interfaith Center. Light refreshments will follow.
