Want fresh, local, seasonal produce delivered (almost) to your office door?
Subscribe to Chapman University’s Community Supported Agriculture (SCA) program, a new project of Student & Campus Life and the Faculty Senate Environmental Committee.
What is a CSA? Over the last 20 years, CSAs have become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. Here are the basics: a farmer offers a certain number of “shares” to the public. Typically the share consists of a box of fruits and vegetables, but other farm products may be included. Interested consumers purchase a share (a.k.a. a “subscription”) and in return receive a box of local, seasonal produce.
Boxes include a variety of local, seasonal produce grown with organic farming methods. A large box includes 11-12 varieties of fruits and vegetables and a small box includes seven to eight. Prices are $30 for a large box or $20 for a small box, plus a $3 delivery fee. Payments must be made in advance on a monthly basis. Pickup will be in the new Student Union on the first floor of Argyros Forum.
